  • October ... Already????

It is Sunday morning ... first day of October ... is it really 3 months until we start a new year? Where is the time going? I've not posted in a few days ... the last entry really can't be considered to be an entry because it was a guest blog from brother Lyn. But, all the same, it was at least an attempt on my part to reach out and touch those out there that read my rants and ravings. Thank you for being one of them Speaking of Lyn ... he's made a departure from our side of the mountain to go and get his grandkid fix. Chickie and little momma also went over to the other side of the mountain to see her dad, Manuel and celebrate his 49th birthday as well as Brenda (Vanessa's half sister) who is turning 10 today.  Because there would be an empty house here without them, David came over from the other side of the mountain to spend the weekend here. Trading spaces everywhere is going on. Having David here without the girls has not been an easy one for me. It actually has been a bit bittersweet. Part of that is due to the fact that I worked on Saturday so that I might be able to take Monday& Tuesday as vacation days to get him back over the mountain ... this time with his things. The last time Tim and I went, we had forgotten to take along anything that David might actually need ... such as long pants and long sleeved shirts. Those items are needed as fall and winter comes upon us. The reality of it all ... when I speak to him on the phone, I get a mental picture of him doing better and better ... yet, when it comes to face to face, there is still room for improvement. Sure, I need to improve upon myself, as all of us do, but why oh why is it so difficult for a person to do what is good for themselves? The roller coaster life that comes with living with alcoholics. Almost like watching a movie ... you know how it ends but you expect it to turn out better. Why take the time and sit and watch the movie over and over and over? On another note, yesteday David and I went to meet up with Tim at a sportsbar in Auburn. A group of his drivers were there as a send off for a co-worker that was returning to Iraq. It was good to sit around the room and swap stories about life. Most of them are the same age as me and having this young pup come into the ranks could have been a bad thing, however, as I've told them ... things simply run down and off his back. One of the drivers stated that he liked Tim because when he says hi ... he always smiles and asks"How's it going?" ... and more importantly, means it. The thing I've always been impressed upon is the fact that he always calls the person by name. All of the guys like Tim and it shows. Respect is earned by a young person when they have as rounded a background as he does. Amazing how he slipped into this job and hasn't given anyone the indication that he's new on the job! We went to karaoke last night ... sang a few tunes ... and had a relatively good time. By relatively, I mean relative. Char hugged me as always and things were fine until she realized the David was back. She has reasons to be on her guard when it comes to David waltzing back into my life. She gets concerned about the validity of David in my life. However, as in many times and places in my life, when people snub my loved ones, they snub me, too. At times, I remember Mom telling us that if we had nothing to say, it was best to say nothing at all. Well, that works out okay for a short time, but not on any steady basis. I prefer David method ... chose your words wisely. At least that way, if a person has a problem, they state it in words that are appropriate so that the person the words are directed at ... get the message. I love Char because I know that she represents Micki ... and she will be on my side ... always. I'm wondering if the reason why my nieces and nephews get stressed out with things and rightfully so ... have been a witness to their father's drinking and how it affected their homes. Yet the need to remember that their mother stayed married to their dad and provided greater than 40 years of holidays and memories that would have been altered immensely if divorce would have been the route they chose. In my way of thinking, the major difference between their husbands and mine is that theirs worked and provided for their families. No doubt, my husband has no children and has lived a life that has been little to no realresponsibility to anyone but himself ... there is absolutely no real reason other than ... stubbornness?? optomism ??? naivete ??? ... that keeps me hanging in there with David. But, please everyone ... my relationship with David is proof positive that sometimes it is difficult to stay true to wedding vows ... sometimes you have to look to 10 years from now to get thru today. If the jeweler were to stop in chiseling away, how would he know what kind of diamond he had? The best gem of a man is somewhere inside of that mine. I'm going to keep chiseling away. A co-worker of mine, she's a bit of a confrontational kind of person. Nothing seems to just pass her by ... by that I mean, nothing. Whether it be a phrase someone has said or something someone is wearing ... she doesn't simply go along with it just because ... instead, she internalizes everything and seems to find the negative connoctation instead of seeing what and why someone has stated what they had. Yet, on another note ... she tells me exactly what she's thinking. For that fact, I do find her to be not so much confrontational as informational. I've been able to change her opinion or attitude about a subject because she's shared her views. She pays great attention to detail and I praise her for that fact. When we were doing a step in our process that appeared to be a little redundant, I had to reassure her that the boss had given it as a direction ... and it really wasn't up to us to determine whether it was being followed in the other groups ... we were going to be held accountable for us ... they would be held accountable for themselves. From that point on, she may have grumbled, but she did it ... only for the boss to say that he appreciated her doing a great job. Guess what I'm trying to say is ... if you have an opinion about things that are happening ... choose your words wisely ... tell someone ... share your views. Nobody I've ever met has been truly able to read a person's mind. They can suspect that they know, but nobody knows better than you what is going in your head. Sure, it isn't going to be easy, nothing in life is that easy. Don't hold back things thinking it is better to do ... snubbing is probably the harshest thing a person can do to someone who has been a part of your life. God allows us to sin and we anticipate he has forgiven us ... weren't we made in his image and likeness? Ask yourself, WWJD - What Would Jesus Do? Well, I'm trying to finish my laundry so that David and I can leave by 2 to Grandview. Vanessa and Andres* are on their way back from Manuel's. They were leaving at almost 11 and should be arriving around 2 ... and we all know that David and Vanessa in the same place at the same time simply doesn't mix. He really does miss Camilla ... and it is torture to him to miss seeing her. But, for the time being, it is the way it is ... and I'm not going to mess with this process. The * ... in the note above  * a story I'll talk about later. But, for now, I have laundry to finish up and need to get going ... Take care and know that I'm loving all of you ... I've been able to catch up with things that have been happening ... what's happening in your world? Connie

  • The Genie in Your Genes with Dawson Church (Explore Your Spirit with Kala Metaphysical Talk Show)

The book Genie in Your Genes links consciousness to genetic change, summarizing a chain of remarkable scientific discoveries that are revolutionizing the ways we think about health. Author Dawson Church applies the insights of the new field of Epigenetics (epi=above, i.e. control above the level of the gene) to healing. Citing hundreds of scientific studies, he shows how beliefs and emotions can trigger the expression of DNA strands. He focuses on a class of genes called Immediate Early Genes or IEGs. These genes turn on within a few seconds of a stimulus. They can be triggered by thoughts or emotions ("I loved that unexpected gift of roses Bill gave me" or "I'm so mad about what Uncle John said at the Christmas party"). Many IEGs are regulatory genes turn on other genes that affect specific aspects of our immune system, such as the production of white blood cells that destroy attacking bacteria and viruses. Epigenetics thus influences our health every day. He coins the new term "Epigenetic Medicine" to describe healing techniques with epigenetic effects. He also summarizes the science behind the infant fields of Energy Psychology and Energy Medicine, both of which offer promising epigenetic medical therapies, and describes a few of the thousands of powerful personal breakthroughs that are being achieved by therapists, doctors and lay people practicing these techniques. The Genie in Your Genes shows that there is a sound theoretical framework, based on credible experiments, for understanding these astonishing results, and predicts that the insights of Epigenetic Medicine will dramatically advance the fields of both medicine and psychology in the coming decade. More About Dawson Church... Dawson Church Ph.D has edited or authored over 200 books in the fields of health, psychology, and spirituality. He has collaborated on articles with many of the leading voices of our time, including Larry Dossey, Bernie Siegel, Caroline Myss, Jeanne Achterberg, Neale Donald Walsch, Gay Hendricks, Joan Borysenko, Mary Catherine Bateson, Andrew Harvey, Huston Smith, Barry Sears, and John Gray. He earned his doctorate in Integrative Healthcare at Holos University under the mentorship of distinguished neurosurgeon Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., founder of the American Holistic Medical Association. He went on to receive a postgraduate Ph.D. in Natural Medicine, as well as pursuing clinical certification in Energy Psychology (EHP-C). Church and Shealy coauthored a compendious survey of spiritual healing throughout history called Soul Medicine. They culminate this work with a landmark profile of accreditation standards for the emerging fields of Energy Medicine and Energy Psychology. Church founded Soul Medicine Institute (SMI), a nonprofit institution dedicated to education and research into science-based medical interventions which use consciousness and energy as primary modalities. As a member of the Research Committee of ACEP, the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology, Church has been active in researching the empirical basis for leading-edge techniques. Church is a seminal thinker, whose research summaries of the biomedical evidence for consciousness-based treatments are providing the scientific underpinnings for this emerging field. The Genie in Your Genes, outlines the latest studies on the effects of consciousness on the expression of DNA molecule, and how consciousness will become the front line of medicine in the coming decade. It has been hailed as a brilliant contribution by many leading authorities in the field, including Fred Gallo, Ph.D. (author of Energy Psychology) and David Feinstein, Ph.D. (The Promise of Energy Psychology). • Meg Lee Chin

Renowned noise artist Meg Lee Chin is perhaps best known for her work with the industrial outfit Pigface. In solo efforts, however, Chin has recently discarded her Industrial trappings -- or rather, turned that burning, twisted instrumentation on the extensively radio-friendly genre of Trip-Hop. The result is a complex, listenable melange that still manages to leave scorched earth behind it.
